D. JUNIUS TORQUATUS SILANUS, probably also a son of No. 11, was consul under Claudius A.D. 53 with Q. Haterius Antoninus. He was compelled by Nero in A.D. 64 to put an end to his life, because he had boasted of being descended from Augustus. Tacitus says that he had boasted of Augustus being his atavus; but if he was really the abnepos of Augustus, the latter was his abavus and not his atavus. (Tac.
