Per le tabelle della distribuzione normale, per i valori dell’ascissa compresi tra 0 e 4 sono state calcolate sia l’ordinata della funzione di Gauss standardizzata

che i valori ed di due differenti funzioni integrali:

Per calcolare i numeri riportati in queste tabelle si è usato un programma in linguaggio C che si serve delle costanti matematiche e delle procedure di calcolo numerico della GNU Scientific Library (GSL); chi volesse maggiori informazioni al riguardo le può trovare sul sito web della Free Software Foundation, sotto la URL http://www.gnu.org/software/gsl/.

La GSL contiene procedure per il calcolo numerico sia delle funzioni di frequenza che di quelle cumulative per tutte le funzioni considerate in questa appendice; e per tutte, meno che per la funzione di Fisher, anche procedure per invertire le distribuzioni cumulative. Per trovare l’ascissa per cui l’integrale (G.1) raggiunge un valore prefissato si è usato il pacchetto della GSL che permette di trovare gli zeri di una funzione definita dall’utente in un intervallo arbitrario.
